Micro-emulsions are clear, thermodynamically stable, isotropic mixtures of oil, water and surfacant (which lowers the surface tension between two liquids or a liquid and a solid). Most of the particles in the micro-emulsion are between 10 and 50 nanometers in diameter.

The term was coined in 1943 by two Cambridge University chemistry professors. The microemulsion systems are also called solubilized oil, transparent emulsions or micellar solutions.

Micro-emulsions are usually the result of:

  • Oil dispursed in water (globular)
  • Water dispursed in oil (globular)
  • Biocontinuous (interconnected)

These Micro-emulsion mixtures may also contain cosurfactants (which make surfacants more effective). Cosurfactants increase the oil solubility of microemulsions. Cosurfactants can also change the temperature range or the salinity range of microemulsion formations, to improve their use in certain applications.

Micro-emulsion Coolants

Micro-emulsions can provide the best of both worlds (synthetic coolant and soluble oil) as a coolant. They provide all the cooling properties of a synthetic plus the lubrication properties of a soluble oil. This makes them the best choice for medium to heavy duty machining operations on stainless steel.

Potentol® 2804 – Wetting Acid Inhibitor for Fracking Operations

Potentol® 2804 is a highly efficient (99.5% protection on most grades of steel) acid corrosion inhibitor. It is often used in fracking operations and in other acidizing operations and chemical cleaning operations in hydrochloric acid.

Potentol® 2804 offers excellent wetting properties and removes scale deposits on metal surfaces. It also enhances the surface brightness of steel, is fast rinsing and is stable in all acid cleaning solutions.

Potentol® 2804 offers excellent base metal protection and is used in chemical cleanouts of steam generation equipment such as boilers, pulp digesters (in the paper industry), and heat exchangers.

Potentol® 2803 – Organic Acid Inhibitor for Fracking Industry

Potentol® 2803 is an efficient (95% steel protection figures) organic acid inhibitor for use in acidizing operations and chemical cleaning applications in hydrochloric acid.

Potentol® 2803 is used in fracking operations that seek a more environmentally friendly acid inhibitor without heavy metals, arsenic, formaldehyde, acetylenic alcohols or flammable ingredients.

It can also be used in chemical cleanouts of steam generation equipment such as boilers, pulp digesters, and heat exchangers. Potentol® 2803 protects the tubing surfaces and welds in boiler cleaning operations, while the acid used (HCl or formic acids) removes the scale deposits targeted during the cleaning process.

Rainkote® 75 – Soluble Oil Rust Preventive

Rainkote® 75 is an emulsifiable oil-based rust preventive. The resulting thin oily film provides indoor protection of steel, cast iron, or galvanized surfaces for up to 6 months. Rainkote® 75 can be used in spray or immersion applications.

Kleerkut® 4900-EPL – Heavy Duty Semi-Synthetic Coolant

Kleerkut® 4900-EPL is a high oil semi-synthetic with chlorinated extreme pressure additives for machining the toughest alloys.

Kleerkut® 4900-HD – Heavy Duty Semi-Synthetic Coolant

Kleerkut® 4900-HD has an enhanced, upweighted synthetic lubricant package, compared to Kleerkut 4900, for heavier duty applications. This product is chlorine-free.

Kleerkut® 4900-HP – Medium Duty Coolant

Kleerkut® 4900-HP is a lower oil version of 4900 designed for light-to-medium duty applications. This product has more reserve alkalinity to enhance pH stability and provide superior emulsion stability.

Kleerkut® 4960 – Semi-Synthetic Coolant for Aluminum

Kleerkut® 4960 performs a wide variety of machining and grinding operations on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals and offers significantly upgraded lubrication properties for aluminum machining operations, as well as better heavy duty lubrication on steel.

Kleerkut® 4960 is a bio-resistant semi-synthetic coolant, free of substances subject to the reporting requirements of SARA Title III. It provides superior rust protection when used in sumps which typically encounter large amounts of contaminants, and is ideal for use in central systems. It is low foaming, easy to clean using filtration or centrifuge, and long lasting.

Kleerkut® 2900 – Low Oil Semi-Synthetic Coolant

Kleerkut® 2900 is a lower oil, heavy duty semi-synthetic lubricant containing extreme pressure additives. It is free of substances subject to reporting requirements of SARA Title III, Section 313. This product provides improved lubricity and excellent micro-finishes. It is low foaming, rejects tramp oils and is suitable for high pressure recirculation.

Rainkote® 110 – Oil-Solvent Rust Preventive

Rainkote® 110 is an oil/solvent based rust preventive used for the protection of steel or cast iron parts during indoor storage for a period of up to one year. The oily film deposited by Rainkote 110 is self healing and lubricating making it ideal for the storage of parts prior to assembly.
